It’s the last full week in July and for thousands of students across the country it means one thing: Bar Exam Time! The culmination of 3 years of law school boiled down to an excruciating 2-3 day exam. Law school is a tough and tumultuous 3 years. If you are considering applying to pursue your JD, then you better look into it before taking the plunge—especially with current tuition! Here is the best book that gives a glimpse into law school life, and the law.

1L of a Ride

Having gone to law school—and reading the book after, oddly enough—I can attest that this is a pretty accurate depiction of law school life.

Whether or not this would make for fun reading for someone that hasn’t been to law school, or is not interested in law school, I cannot fully say.

But given the layperson’s high degree of interest in doctor and cop TV shows, I would venture to say it is probably interesting enough for all adult audiences.

I think the main target audience for this book, however, is the poor sap that is actually considering going through all of the hoops of just applying to law school—which is akin to applying to the CIA, I’d imagine—and wants to have a better understanding of what they are fun for if they actually decide to attend law school.

Most of the anecdotes are still relevant today, and most of the case law discussed when this book was written is still taught in law schools today.

And, of course, the infamous “Gunners” are still present in the law school classes around the country. So too are the wracked nerves of people hoping that they aren’t the ones to be called next to discuss a case.

The ever-feared Socratic Method!

The book was well written, entertaining and gives a good glimpse into Law School Life that should really be read by anyone contemplating going to law school and want to know what to expect.

And it is pretty accurate, so if you don’t like what you read in this book, then you may want to reconsider attending law school at all!

It is expensive, stressful and when you do graduate, you still have to take a difficult exam to become a practicing attorney! This book about law school is the best Return on Investment you can get for a glimpse into the harsh realities of life during law school.
