Get The MOS You Want: Best ASVAB Study Guide

If you want to join the military, then you need to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). In order to qualify for certain Military Occupation Specialties (MOS), prospective recruits will first need to get a minimum score on the ASVAB. Fortunately, the ASVAB is a test that is fairly easy to prepare for. In fact, if you get a book and study, then you are already way ahead of your peers.

ASVAB FOR DUMMIES

Yes, you read that correctly. I bought several study guides before taking my test, and hands-down the best one was ASVAB for Dummies. Keep in mind, that the ASVAB is not the GRE or the LSAT; it is pretty straight-forward and is mostly a refresher course on things that we have already learned but have already forgotten—like multiplying fractions, who remembers how to do that?

And for any subject you did not learn in High school, or middle school, the concepts are generally pretty easy. There are a lot of hands-on vocational education type questions, like identifying the different type of saws by looking at the teeth of the blade. Pretty tough to know unless you have taken shop class.

But again, the concepts are all easily retained with a bit of studying. And ASVAB for Dummies does a great job of not complicating the test and turning it into something it is not. A lot of the other books are by big test prep firms that cater to the GRE/LSAT/MCAT/SAT market and tend to over-step their approach to the relatively easy ASVAB test.

And that is not a good thing because that type of study material may intimidate some students and it may make them less inclined to even take the test. Which is ludicrous. And that is the main reason ASVAB for Dummies is , in my opinion, the best study guide for the ASVAB, as it teaches you the basics, and nothing else.

If you read this stem to stern, then you will be fully-prepared to crush the ASVAB and get the Military Occupation Specialty you are aiming for. I believe my GT score was 138 after reading the book and taking one of the practice exams for time, and I qualified for every MOS that was available. It is always good to have options! And a good score will open a lot of doors to you and will allow recruiters to make better bonus offers etc.

Good luck!
