Which Spyderco Knife Was Used in the Movie Act of Valor?

The Preferred Spyderco Knife of Navy Seals

As a Spyderco enthusiast, I love to watch action movies and see where I can find them located. Usually, it is pretty easy to tell when the knife has been used as a product placement versus when it is used as a realistic addition or enhancement to a certain scene.

In Act of Valor, a movie based on realistic Navy Seal Missions, and acted in part by real Navy Seals, there is a clear picture of one Seal with a Spyderco knife strapped to his plate carrier.

Upon closer inspection, it looks to be a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 knife. Although it is impossible to tell if it is serrated or straight edged, there is no doubt that this is a great folding tactical knife.

I have handled this model several times and it is a big, easy to grip, combat folder. It would be a great secondary knife, as I would certainly rather carry a fixed blade, full-tanged combat knife.

Nonetheless, I was very surprised to catch glimpse of this Spyderco in the movie. It was very subtle, and I highly doubt that it was put in there as a product placement. Because the movie had real Navy Seals on set as actors, there is little doubt they had direct input on what gear to use in their chest rigs and what they actually wore on the missions portrayed in the movie.

Based on that likely assumption, it is safe to say that the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Folder is a go-to knife for many Seals. Based on that knowledge alone, it is good-enough for me.

The knife can usually be found for about $130 online. It has a six-inch blade, so this is not your grand pappy’s Old Timer foldable knife. It has some serious heft to it.
